ATOM & Tascam/Sony DTRS Series
Soundmaster Group's experience with the DTRS family of modular digital multitracks goes back to the fall of 1993 when we were the first to comprehensively integrate the Tascam DA-88 into the sound post production universe. In fact, within hours of taking delivery of a DA-88 interface for their SYNCRO-based ION system, Hollywood's Mix Magic successfully utilized it in the production of NBC's "Unsolved Mysteries". Soundmaster remains the world leader in exploiting the power of this Emmy award winning format.
When you add our new ATOM to the mix, a potent combination of leading edge technologies is affordable by anyone involved in sound for picture, from the smallest project studio to the biggest Hollywood studio.
- Soundmaster externally synchronizes the DA-88/DA-98/DA-98HR/PCM-800. The onboard SY-88 synchronizer card is used solely to provide SMPTE/EBU time code to the system. As a result, we achieve by far the fastest lock times in the industry (consistently one to two seconds!)
- Other DA-88/98/98HR/PCM-800 or DA-38 units on the Tascam Bus lock much faster than when an SY-88 provides external synchronization for the group of machines. The concept of a virtual 24 track (up to a virtual 128 track) machine is now possible without having to wait an excessive time for all the tracks to be in sync.
- Soundmaster is a licensee of Tascam's proprietary control protocol allowing access to a wealth of features through the DA-88's "Sync In" port (the same port the Tascam RM-848 controller uses). Many manufacturers simply support 9 pin RS422 control, leaving a great deal of the DTRS format's power untapped.
- Track arming for the 8 tracks of the main SY-88 equipped unit is supported directly from SYNCRO and ATOM-based ION systems. For comprehensive control over a variety of other features on the main machine and other units on the Tascam bus, ION/88 is an extremely cost-effective solution.
